MOSCOW, Jul 12 (PRIME) -- The number of attacks on Russian critical infrastructure rocketed 150% on the year in January–June, the General Radio Frequency Center’s research and technology center said in a study seen by PRIME on Monday.
“40% of attacks were committed by cybercriminals and 60% by state-linked actors,” the center said.
“The share of assaulted facilities of critical infrastructure stays extremely large, the number of attacks and ransom sums continue to increase,” the center said, quoting its head Alexander Fedotov.
According to Fedotov, in 2017, the amount of U.S. $1 million paid by South Korea’s Nayana for unblocking of its computers “seemed jaw-dropping,” and in 2021, $1–2 million “have become the average sum of payoff after a ransomware attack.”
